    It is now looking increasingly likely that capital gains tax and VAT are going to be the taxes used by the new coalition to “tame” the deficit. With the emergency Budget set for the 22nd June, the next month will see frantic activity across all business sectors as owners try to crystallise capital gains tax (CGT) and purchase assets to avoid the mooted increase in the VAT rate from 17.5 % to 20%.

    To ensure that the Care Sector Team at Bishop Fleming remains in touch with current sentiment, we carried out a survey in June 2009 to establish how care-home owners were finding the challenges facing the sector, and how these were impacting on their business. The results were not surprising, as they backed up the message we were hearing from clients across the region.
