In a landmark announcement, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has decided that charities that fail the Charity
Commission‟s public benefit test will not be immediately stripped of their tax benefits - providing they eventually retake
and pass the test. Many charities had feared that a temporary
lapse of public benefit could have had serious tax
repercussions.

Charities Newsletter - Autumn 09
This has proved to be a very challenging year for charities and our lead article focuses on this subject. Although the government is indicating that we are likely to see the green shoots early next year they are forecasting that it will be a very slow recovery and that we are unlikely to return to the buoyant times for many decades if ever.
Some pundits would say that it would be a good thing
never to return to the excesses of the last 5 years,
however, rich economies naturally tend to support more charitable activities so we may have to get used to operating in this environment.
